There are a couple of posts on this from 2 years ago, but I am not seeing a real solution. I would like to add an unsubscribe link in the body of an email, that unsubs users from a SPECIFIC subscription type.
All I see now is the option to add “unsubscribe all” or “subscription preferences” both of these options are worthless in this scenario.
The issue with the preferences option is that it has all 6 of our email types checked at once. AND most customers should only be subscribed to 1 or two of them. So they are emailing us asking why they are subscribed to “developer updates”. Even though they are not actually and hubspot just has the box ticked.
So they are unsubscribing from all of them becasue it is confusing and they are being removed from things they should not be.
Is there not a solution to adding an unsubscribe link for 1 specific email preference type?
“Unsubscribe” from all emails and “Subscription preferences” are the two default options in marketing email footers, that’s correct. While there is no easy way to edit these in your account settings, you could create a new custom marketing email footer (instructions here).

In the instructions you linked to it only mentions how to unsubscribe from all or manage subscription types.
My ideal footer would have 3x unsubscription options
1. Unsubscribe from [subscription type of email]
2. Manage subscription preferences
3. Unsubscribe from all
I found a way to do that (not sure if its the right way but it works).
I have 5 subsricption types in Hubspot.
I created 5 custom email footers (1 footer = 1 Subscription Type)
In each of my email footer, I change the unsubscribe link for a custom Url leading to a dedicated landing page saying "Thanks, you’re now unsusribe from “Subscirption type”.
And I created 5 workflows (1 Workflow = 1 footer).
Satrting when a contact click on the link in my email footer. And changing the linked email subsription type directly in the workflow
Et voilà

Hope all is well. I have been trying to see how to setup this workflow you mention, based on a user clicking on a custom URL. But cannot see what the actual ‘trigger’ action should be.
Can you help? Is it:
When an event occurs
Object Created
Playbook Log
Property Value Changed - if so which one?
Etc?
Really hoping to setup a means for users to unsubscribe from individual subscription types.

My concern with this method is while it will work with the LINK, it won’t affect the “this message came from a mailing list, click here to unsubscribe” header that Apple Mail (and probably others) put at the top of the emails that they display from Hubspot…
I think that auto-response will still trigger a full opt-out. Has anyone tried it?
Just found this post and would like to achieve the same thing. That is to provide an ‘unsubscribe’ link that only unsubscribes the user from a specific subsciption type, not all as it does at present? Even better, just the one that the email is sent as?
Configurable unsubscribe links let marketers control how an unsubscribe action is applied in emails. Instead of always removing a contact from all email communications, you can configure the link so that it only unsubscribes them from the specific subscription type tied to that email.
Why does it matter?
Marketers can control the unsubscribe experience choosing for contacts to either opt out of just one category of communication while staying subscribed to others; it can minimize users unsubscribing from all communications unintentionally.
How does it work?
In the email editor, you’ll find new unsubscribe link options in the Email Content > Footer panel. Instead of only having “Unsubscribe from all” or “Manage preferences,” you can now select “Unsubscribe from this subscription type” as an option.
This can be configured per email campaign: you can choose to show subscription-specific unsubscribe links, general unsubscribe links, manage preferences links, or a combination of these options. The feature is available in default email footers and custom email footers.
When contacts click the subscription-specific unsubscribe link, they’ll be taken to a page that clearly shows which subscription type they’re unsubscribing from, with an option to access their full preference management page if they want to make additional changes.
Callouts:
This feature still ensures compliance by offering a clear opt-out path on the confirmation page (a link to navigate to manage email preferences is still visible).
Marketers can continue to decide on a per-campaign basis which unsubscribe experience makes the most sense for their campaign whether that’s all communications, subscription-specific, or using the Preferences link.
If using custom templates in Design Manager for your emails, you can use HubL variable unsubscribe_single.
This marketing email feature is available to Marketing Hub Pro+ customers.
Great news! But… I started to roll this out and then tested it… but in the pop up screen it gives the user the option to visit their email preferences where all the other subscription types are listed.
As such - this update doesn’t work for us.
Why? Because we manage client only mailing lists where we don’t want prospects simply opting in to receive private / client only emails from these options.
Can the Dev team provide a control to allow all HubSpot users to either show or hide the preferences option in the page that appears after clicking on ‘unsubscibe’. Hoping that would be an easy fix.
Sooo close to become an amazing fix and valued update, Just that final control will really help us and I am sure many others who maintain private / client only mailing lists.

@PJohns If its helpful I have a similar situation with many subscription types but many are private.
All are visible but as a solution we use specific segment logic to qualify people to get emails from this subscription type that DOES NOT use if someone is subscribed or not. This way its possible for anyone to see any subscription type but subscribing to a private subscription type won’t qualify them to get those emails.
Seperately - could you solve this by applying visibility rules to the subscription types that are private? Settings>email>subscription types then mouse over the subscription type > actions > Apply rule>Visibility rules.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it appears that visibility rules is a feature of Enterprise and we are on Professional - doh!
You have me making a case for jumping up a level now! Though it would still be good if the controls to show / hide preferences was available at all tiers.
