Email Subscription Type - Only show Marketing Email type

Starter Subscription.

When sending marketing emails, can I only show the marketing email types in the Unsubscribe link? I don’t want the contacts to unsubscribe from one-to-one.

Thank you.

Hi @K_Mokws,

There isn’t any setting that would let you hide the subscription type consistently. In most portals that I manage where this was a requirement, we hid the not-to-be-displayed subscription types with the help of a developer and JavaScript.

In Marketing Hub Enterprise, you can hide subscription types as long as a contact is not opted into that type: Display different email subscriptions for different contacts

Best regards

Configure unsubscribe links in email

What is it?

Configurable unsubscribe links let marketers control how an unsubscribe action is applied in emails. Instead of always removing a contact from all email communications, you can configure the link so that it only unsubscribes them from the specific subscription type tied to that email.

Why does it matter?

Marketers can control the unsubscribe experience choosing for contacts to either opt out of just one category of communication while staying subscribed to others; it can minimize users unsubscribing from all communications unintentionally.

How does it work?

In the email editor, you’ll find new unsubscribe link options in the Email Content > Footer panel. Instead of only having “Unsubscribe from all” or “Manage preferences,” you can now select “Unsubscribe from this subscription type” as an option.

This can be configured per email campaign: you can choose to show subscription-specific unsubscribe links, general unsubscribe links, manage preferences links, or a combination of these options. The feature is available in default email footers and custom email footers.

When contacts click the subscription-specific unsubscribe link, they’ll be taken to a page that clearly shows which subscription type they’re unsubscribing from, with an option to access their full preference management page if they want to make additional changes.

Callouts:

  • This feature still ensures compliance by offering a clear opt-out path on the confirmation page (a link to navigate to manage email preferences is still visible).
  • Marketers can continue to decide on a per-campaign basis which unsubscribe experience makes the most sense for their campaign whether that’s all communications, subscription-specific, or using the Preferences link.
  • If using custom templates in Design Manager for your emails, you can use HubL variable unsubscribe_single.
  • This marketing email feature is available to Marketing Hub Pro+ customers.

Best regards!

We have an enterprise account and do not have the “unsubscribe from this subscription type” option under subscription type in the footer, I’ve shared a screenshot of the only 3 options that appear. Is there a reason that option isn’t available?

Hi there @MReif

Thank you for posting to the Community! Great question, and this is something a lot of users have run into! The “Unsubscribe from this subscription type” option in the Footer panel is part of a feature called Configurable Unsubscribe Links, which is available to Marketing Hub Pro and Enterprise customers.

Even though you’re on an Enterprise account, there are a couple of things worth checking:

  1. Which Hub? The feature is specific to Marketing Hub Pro/Enterprise; if your Enterprise subscription is for another Hub (Sales, Service, etc.) without Marketing Hub Pro+, the option won’t appear.
  2. Are you using the updated email editor? The new unsubscribe link options live in the Email Content > Footer panel of the email editor. If you’re working from an older custom template built in Design Manager, you may need to use the HubL variable unsubscribe_single to access this functionality.
  3. Custom footer vs. default footer? The feature is available in both default email footers and custom email footers, but if your template was built before this feature rolled out, it may not have been updated to include the new option automatically.

If you’ve verified you’re on Marketing Hub Pro/Enterprise and are using the standard email editor but still don’t see the option, I’d recommend reaching out to HubSpot Support directly so they can take a look at your portal setup. Hope that helps get you sorted! :raising_hands:
