Space in Personalization Token

Hi,

We are using the personalized token for first name field. We did not set anything for the default value because the salutation is Good Morning. If the name isn’t there -- we just want it to say Good Morning, but it keeps putting an extra space like Good Morning ,

Is there a way to fix this or is standard because we have no default in that area.

Thank you,

A

Hi @amaykelly,

As far as I know, this space cannot be removed. The best (and only, I think) workaround here would be smart rules (requiring a Professional or Enterprise subscription).

For contacts, where first name is known, you would display “Good morning [first name],”. This would be the default smart version of the email body. For contacts where first name is unknown, a smart version of the email body with “Good morning,” would display.

(I’m not aware of a workaround that does not involve smart rules.)

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I didn’t think so. I will look into the smart rules.

Hi @karstenkoehler,

I have been trying to write a module along these lines:

{% if contact.firstname %}Hi {{ contact.firstname }},{% else %}Hi,{% endif %}

I haven’t been able to get it to work yet. But in theory, wouldn’t this work in the body of the email?

Thanks,

Jonathan

This really is something that should be fixed. It makes it look like we have made an error when we haven’t.

Hi, I would also support this getting fixed. Seems like an easy fix. Rather than having to insert a space, we would like to omit the personalszation token if the field is empty.

Our use case is that we have a lot of contacts with academic title and we have created a custom field for this. In Germany it is common that we address someone as Frau Dr. Müller (Mrs Dr. Müller). But this means all other contacts are now addressed as Frau Müller with 2 spaces in between, making it look like a mistake.
