When leads first launched you couldn’t create a lead for only a contact, once they launched teh lead as official hubspot object I had already biult out a custom object that would do what we need and associate to deals, comanies etc.,
I am in the final stages of building a lead object based version of this so our sales team can get more out of the sales workspace only to get most of the way done with the project and find that hubspot’s chat was wrong and you can’t associate multiple leads with a deal OR leads to leads. Making my parent/child lead structure a total nonstarter. I am shocked you can’t edit these things in the data model tool.
So for now I get the pleasure of using BOTH the custom object and the leads object and creating a 1:1 match between the two in hopes we can get the best of both worls. This would be AMAZING functionality if we could build this out!
The parent/child association lets us look at how an account is getting worked and things like demo requests getting worked etc., in relation to that accounts lifecycle.
I was going to create a 1:1 match with our custom objects, but I think we are instead going to build out a hierarchy based on lead<>deal create and type of lead and assign the highest value & most recent lead and then do some fancy syncing fields between all open leads on the account. I haven’t fully built it out yet but I’ll post the final pass once I have it figured out!
Thanks for the product ideas suggestion! I always forget about that one!
Thanks @BérangèreL and hey there @CWat44. I don’t have an answer to the overall question, but I did want to suggest sharing this use case in the product ideas forum. That’s where product managers hang out, and they’re usually very interested in use case to improve the platform. Not a guarantee, but a possibility you’ll connect with the product manager.
I migrated our sales teams from Deals to Leads + Deals. And this is a big problem for us that we discovered late. We have more sales teams and even more SaaS products. We have more pipelines by sales teams and we need to associate a lead with a lead so that the salesperson knows that one contact has more leads open in his pipeline. Also, if he qualifies a lead, he may need to qualify more leads for one deal.
