Externally Designed Template - A/B Testing CTAs

Hi,

I’m running into an issue when I want to run A/B tests on clickable links in my email. Currently, my company is building our emails in BEEPro and then importing the template to HubSpot to send. Once the template is in HubSpot, we can edit the template’s code, but once that’s done, the edits are applied to the entire email.

So, in relation to A/B testing using HubSpot’s tool, we don’t really have any option for testing in-email content without completely creating an entirely new email and manually splitting the lists. We’re only able to use the handy A/B test tool to optimize our Open Rates…
Does anyone have a potential solution (coding or otherwise) that can help speed this process along?

Thank you!

Hi @LBrisita,

Thanks for reaching out!

I would like to invite our subject matter experts to this conversation.

Hi @danmoyle, @Mike_Eastwood, @NicoleSengers, @himanshurauthan - Do you have any thoughts for @LBrisita?

Thank you!

Best,

Kristen

@LBrisita may I ask if there’s a possibility of building in HubSpot’s drag & drop editor instead of custom code? To get the most out of the features, like A/B testing, I’ve found using HubSpot’s native email builder is best.

Here’s a video we made with a nice walk-through: Building Your First Drag & Drop HubSpot Email Editor

Also, here’s a developer resource on drag and drop templates for your develepor team.

Hi Dan,

At this time, that’s not something we’re considering. We have a fairly large team and organization, so we wanted a tool that we could easily scale out for others to build emails. We have our main corporate, and many branches who we don’t all wanting to have access to HubSpot so having an external solution is the most feasible.

So there isn’t currently a way maybe duplicate the entire template within one page, and mark one as the A version to send and one as the B version to send?

For our recent A/B test, I had to send as two separate emails just so I could use different UTMs…

@LBrisita when you create an email from a custom template, do you see this:

HubSpot makes it real easy to A/B test in general. So if you don’t see that, then yes you’ll have to manually test with separate emails to separate lists and manage the results in a separate report. Unless someone else has an answer?

Dan,
When I import the template, it appears like an HTML file:

If that’s true, it’s a bit unfortunate. The A and B versions of emails in HubSpot don’t have unique module names that are created which I could connect to?
What type of code is set in HubSpot to designate different versions of an email for an A/B test?

Leo

@LBrisita I see. I’m no developer, so I don’t know the code for A/B testing or if it’s possible. I’m at the end of my knowledge on this one, friend. Sorry!

No problem! I appreciate your responsiveness, Dan.

Is there a developer you know who may be able to help with this? It’s not an urgent request so an answer after your Global week of Rest is fine.

Thanks!

@LBrisita oh I’m not a HubSpot employee so I won’t be resting with them  I’m just a user (and HubSpot Partner employee) and love helping others. No worries!

I’ll tag my colleague @Kevin-C to see if he has insight or ideas on a developer that might have ideas. Kevin’s a developer and wicked smart.
