Is there a way for me to make the email footer automatically set to ‘custom’ rather than default when email is created? And when custom is selected, I find that i need to customize the email footer every time it i switched to ‘Custom’. Is there a way for me to set what it should show? Any help is much appreciated.

I’m not aware of a away to change the default. You can however save the entire module that the footer lives within as a saved section. Move your mouse over footer or the layout element it sits within until you see this:
Click the save icon and then you can easily reuse it from the ‘Saved sections’ area in the left sidebar.
