Just started a company, made a Hubspot account, and to my surprise there were already 180 properties on just the contact record. I don’t remember ordering those 
There’s about 20 of them that I want to use, but I’ve noticed that some of them are also used by standard Hubspot functionality (like facebook integration etc).
What would happen if I just flat out deleted the other 160? Would everything break? How easy would it be to restore a property that turned out to be necessary?
I refuse to work with properties that I don’t understand, and I don’t have time to study all 180 of them

You can archive properties and, if you notice that something breaks, restore them within 90 days: Organize, delete, and export properties
HubSpot won’t let you archive system critical properties, so you shouldn’t encounter any situations where you archive a property and then encounter errors. Properties in use can’t be archived / deleted.
My general recommendation, as someone who’s set up and managed dozens of portal: Don’t spend too much time trying to clean these up. Simply don’t use those that you don’t need and ignore the rest.

Reviewing this page makes it less likely that you’re creating properties which already exist.
