Hi @hhiggins and the HubSpot product team,
Thanks for sharing this update and for rolling out the new Help Desk Spaces feature. It’s definitely a step in the right direction for organizing tickets and helping teams stay focused. That being said, we feel it still doesn’t address the main issue that many of us mentioned earlier in this thread, which is the need for channel-specific permissions, similar to how it currently works in the Conversation Inboxes.
The challenge isn’t about filtering or viewing tickets by team, which Spaces helps with. The real need is the ability to control which teams or users can access and respond to certain channels. For example, if we connect a WhatsApp channel for our HR team, we don’t want our Sales team to see or reply to those messages. In the old Inbox setup, we could easily restrict access to specific inboxes or channels for each team. That level of control was essential for keeping things organized and preventing cross-team confusion.
In the new Help Desk, once a channel is connected, anyone with access to the Help Desk can see it, regardless of whether it’s relevant to their team. The Spaces feature doesn’t solve this problem because it only filters tickets based on assignment. The underlying channel access remains open to everyone.
Another issue is that Spaces require users to have a Service Seat, which makes this feature even less accessible for most teams. In reality, Service seats are typically only purchased and assigned to dedicated customer service roles. However, other departments such as Sales, HR, Marketing, or Tech teams also need some level of channel-specific access or custom views, especially when they occasionally handle service-related inquiries or collaborate on cross-functional tickets. Without this flexibility, it’s difficult to implement Help Desk effectively across departments.
For many of us, this is a blocker for moving over to the Help Desk. It just isn’t practical for companies with multiple teams like Sales, Support, and HR managing different communication channels.
Would love to know if the product team has any plans to introduce channel-level access controls in Help Desk, similar to how they worked in Inboxes. That’s really the missing piece that would make it possible for us to fully transition over. Until then, we’ll continue using the Inbox feature since this level of access control is essential for our operations.
