Workflow Action to Append Email Address

I’ve recently finished a large data migration.

In the system where the data came from, contacts had two email fields, one primary, one secondary.

To migrate this into HubSpot, I’ve created the corresponding fields, but would now like to tidy up by adding the secondary email as a normal email field.

If I use the “Copy Property Value” workflow action, it replaces the primary email. I would like to have a way to append a new email instead.

I thought that its already given that we’ll have an option to append additional emails through workflows and forms when the update rolled out to the email property. Just boggles my mind why these updates seem half-baked and poorly planned. Hopefully we’ll later have the ability to append values to this through other means except manual method.

Is this a thing yet or still missing? Definitely need workflows to be able to add to the email instead of only replacing the primary. With email being used as a unique ID for any API call, having primary emails change via a workflow can cause some major unintended consequences…
On top of this, being able to lock permissions for editing the primary email while still allowing them to add additional emails is needed when there’s manual additions to an email but we need to keep the unique ID primary email.

I work at a higher education institiution. Sometimes I have at least 3 emails for our alumni, their student ID which they can still use, their work email, and their personal like Gmail or Yahoo. I created an object to archive old email addresses and mark ones as current and preferred to provide more details as needed. I can create a workflow to move the preferred emails to the email on the contact but I would like the option to copy items over to the additional email fields and track appropriately.

It would also be nice to remove bad emails from the contact page so people that don’t pay attention don’t keep emailing them.

Wow, we are almost at 4 years here.
Just an update, although they already allowed additional emails - this can only be done manually for now through editing and merging.

On workflows though, the edit action is still limited to overwriting and clearing. Take note, for list properties, we already have the append action. I just find it frustrating that this wasn’t applied to emails yet.

Here is my wish for this:

  • for workflows email edit action, we’d like to have the following options:
    • append only (add as additional email and do not set as primary)
    • append and set as primary (move current active email to additional emails and set the new email as the primary)
    • overwrite (replace the primary email and do not save the old email)
    • clear

I really hope that their developers see and consider these in the later updates.
