A good blog post should offer something useful or valuable to the reader, perhaps something that’s hard to find elsewhere, or that’s written/shared in a better way than other content they’ve found.
The best blog posts I read teach me something, or give me ideas/inspiration to improve certain areas of my life/routine - blog posts that feel too promotional, or too obviously linked to a product/campaign, cause me to switch off.
I think page design and text formatting are equally as important as the content - if I’ve clicked through and it just looks like a wall of text, often I’m deterred from reading altogether.
The blog post needs concise but potent, and needs to position itself as a thought leader. The sales pitch, while it can be present, shouldn’t be the main consideration which should be to inform.
The key to a great blog post is a great, catchy title. Engaging with the audience and getting them to read-on is the first step to success. How to, 5 Tips, Easy Guide etc are all good ways to captivate an audience. I would then recommend keeping the blog short. Breaking it up into points will make it easy to read. I would also include video, bold text, bullets or images to make it even easier to digest.
besides from usefulness and relevancy the tone-of-voice is very important to me. One of my favorite marketing go-to marketing blogs is by Velocity Partners. They are BRILLIANT writers and have a very good sense of humour + curious and caring approach to creating content that matters
I was initially attracted to the blog post, as so many are, by the attractive image and interesting headline. This is essential for getting attention - the best written post in the world is worthless if nobody reads it. For me the post must be professional and well-written on a topic of interest. The topic of wildlife preservation in India appealed to me on many levels including some incredible images. It was compelling and engaging to hear now governments, businesses and professional nature photographers got together to collaborate on preserving endangered species in the great sub-continent.
