When bulk importing data, we obviously want to record the date the contact or company was created in our original system (being exported from), not the date/time we did the transfer.
Obviously I can create a custom property for this, but it feels like I’m making so many custom properties already *and* this is such an obvious need (HubSpot *wants* people to migrate from their current systems, right???) that I thought I should check first and see if I wasn’t just missing something.
Hi @khp4,
You’re correct, this is currently not possible. I don’t think either that it will ever be. The Create date refers to the date of creation of the record in HubSpot and by definition shouldn’t be editable.
Creating a separate custom field is indeed the best option.
Best regards!
Hi @khp4,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community!
I checked for you and that is correct, at the moment, the “create date” cannot be modified.
I’d like to share this post from @karstenkoehler “How to import created date” and this post from my colleague @PamCotton “Importing date fields from contacts” about this subject.
I also wanted to invite a couple of subject matter experts to this conversation @Franci, @Jnix284 and @SNigam do you have a workaround (other than creating a custom property) for this please?
I therefore recommend you to post this idea on our Ideas Forum here.
And I encourage you to share and upvote for the idea ( this way it will have more chances to be implemented in the future), and follow the thread to receive the update status.
Thanks and have a lovely day!

I just wanted to give a tad more detail about how we handle this custom field at my agency (when we can’t use Create Date with a migration tool, which is always preferable).
We create a new field called Original Create Date. We then run a workflow so all data goes from Create Date into this field and make this field the master for all our reports instead. Then you have one place that becomes the master.
