URL Structure - SEO implications

Hi All,

After a bit of expert insight if possible, please.
Does splitting your company name across domain and root domain cause issues with SEO? Is it better to just have your full company name in the main domain? For example, say our company is called ‘business technology’ and the generic URL would potentially be www.businesstechnology.co.uk (with the full company name in the domain field), would www.business.technology (with the company name split across the domain and top-level domain) be detrimental to SEO? For those in the UK, you will have seen ‘gocompare.com’ have rebranded to ‘go.compare’. This is an example of what I am referring to. Does it matter if the company name is split or is it better to have the full company name in the ‘domain’ field of the URL?

Cheers,

Lois
