It would be very helpful if I was able to configure a one-way sync between an active contact list and a specific Mailchimp list. As HubSpot added and removed members from the active list, the same contacts would be added and removed from the corresponding Mailchimp list.
@cbray nice!
I want to dig into this: what is the reason behind you wanting the contacts to actually disappear from the audience? do you wish to really ‘remove’ them from the list (= delete from audience)… or would unsubscribing them also work?
Hi @FransLeys -- My primary use case would be for segment targeting based on properties in HubSpot, so if a contact no longer fell into a particular segment based on their HubSpot properties (as determined by the active list’s filter) then I wouldn’t want them to be in the Mailchimp audience, so that they would no longer receive messages from us. For example: all contacts with Lifecycle stage of Customer are grouped into a HubSpot list called “Customers” and sync’d to a Mailchimp audience called “Customers” which the marketing team uses to send customer announcements. If they stop being a Customer, they should be removed from the Customers audience. Unsubscribe should certainly still work on the Mailchimp side (the contact is still a customer, but no longer wants to receive customer announcements), but them unsubscribing would not remove them from either list, as they were still a customer.
@cbray I hear you loud & clear. Thanks for going in detail. Taking this home to see how we can approach this use case.
Could I entertain you with the workaround that pops up in my mind, reading how you work. It involves changing the way you work, so I definitely acknowledge that’s not always possible. If not for you, maybe for other readers.
Rather than trying to maintain different audiences (which can be a PITA) I like to follow Mailchimp’s proclaimed best practice of one single audience which would have all contacts in it.. You set up one sync from HS with MC and you would include a field mapping to have the HS Lifecycle Stage directly synced to a (hidden) property in Mailchimp which you call “HubSpot Lifecycle stage” (or whatever). That at least solves getting 100% of the info TO mailchimp. Then, inside of Mailchimp, you create segments that revolve around that synced property… I guess segments really are the active lists of Mailchimp are they not?
That would definitely work for the simple filter example that I gave you, and is something that I’m likely to use (thank you for that) - but the reality is that the filters that we use for our actual segments are much more complex than just lifecycle stage. While I can certainly keep mapping fields into Mailchimp, and could probably even cook up a master “segment” field that gets pushed over, it seems like it would be much cleaner (for our org) to keep all of the logic together within HubSpot. I appreciate you taking the request under consideration!
