Smart sections are vitally needed in the drag and drop email builder. Having smart modules is nice, however when you’re working with 20+ smart modules in a single email for multiple audiences, you need a larger scale solution.
It’s frustrating that lower level competitors have this functionality and HubSpot does not. I know there may be more expanded features in custom templates, however not all HubSpot customers are able to have an email developer on staff.
Hey @victoriakell - thanks for posting in the Community!
I can see an accepted solution outlined in the thread you linked. Does this help at all with your inquiry?
I was able to locate this submitted idea in our Ideas Forum, which I just personally upvoted to continue echo’ing the need for this feature. I highly recommend you also upvoting it and commenting on the thread how you’d like to see this implemented. It looks like the team is aware of the need, amongst others. I want to ensure we’re still nudging the conversation!

The accepted solution doesn’t cover the need for an entire section to be smart. While a section with smart content can be saved and reapplied elsewhere, the actual 1 column, 2 column, etc section isn’t cannot be smart.
My use case involves having highly customized emails with entire sections dedicated to specific audiences. From a marketer’s standpoint, testing and checking 20, 30, or sometimes 50+ smart modules is a feat by itself. Plus the acrobatics needed to adjust padding, margins, and empty image placeholders for content and spacing that shouldn’t show is an afternoon’s worth of work by itself.
Having whole sections, where you can apply images, buttons, videos, etc. to be tailored to a specific audience would be amazing. While you could manage this for separate emails too, my use case is a little more complicated because I’m sending to 20+ internal client brands at a time. It’s a lot easier to use smart modules (and one day smart sections!) than it is to send 20+ separate emails to my client brands. Plus, I can still get all the reporting I need per audience from the one email.
Thank you for the link to the Ideas post, I’ve upvoted and commented!
Hey @victoriakell! Totally heard. I think this is a great use case that our Product team should consider. I also upvoted the idea to get more eyes on it!
