Single Send API - Update Contact email address?

Hi folks! The Single Send API allows me to update aspects of a Contact record (such as first-name, last-name) as a side-effect of sending an email. Is it possible to update the Contact’s email address in this manner. Something like:

I’m trying to avoid creating unnecessary new Contact records when a user changes their email address.

That’t a good question; it’s not possible to update a contact’s email property using the Single Send API. If you try, you’ll see an error like the following:
