Set a default value for a dropdown select field

Hi all,

We created a new custom property of a dropdown select type.

Now when I want my users to create new contact, I want them to have a default value of the first option from that dropdown select (total of 3 options).

Also for form submissions (That i solve with hidden fields) and I also have a meeting scheduler for round robin. but we cannot add to the meeting scheduler hidden fields, so how do i auto set those contacts or any other contacts to this default value? I know i can create a workflow but in salesforce you have an option of default value and that solves the issue.

Hi @OBetzalel,

It’s currently not possible to set default values for fields in the CRM, it’s not possible either to set default values for hidden fields in meeting links either unfortunately l. You’d have to use a workflow.

@karstenkoehler For forms I saw that you have the option for preselect values:

But for other options it is not possible.

Set default property values

What is it?

You can now set default values for properties in HubSpot. When creating or editing a property, admins can define a value that will automatically be applied whenever a new record is created.

Default property values are applied consistently across HubSpot—whether records are created manually, through workflows, or via APIs—so commonly used values are automatically set, saving users a step and keeping data consistent.

Why does it matter?

Many teams rely on the same values being set repeatedly when creating records. Without default values, this often leads to repetitive manual entry, inconsistent data, or complex workflows built just to fill in the blanks.

With default property values, you can:

  • Save time by pre-filling commonly used values
  • Reduce data gaps and “unknown” states
  • Eliminate workflow workarounds used solely to initialize data
  • Improve overall data quality and consistency from the moment a record is created

This makes record creation faster for end users and data management simpler for admins.

How does it work?

  1. In your HubSpot account, click the settings icon in the top navigation bar
  2. In the left sidebar menu, navigate to Properties
  3. Select an existing property (or create a new property)
  4. Click the Field type tab
  5. Set a default value for the property
  6. Once you’re ready, click Save (or click Create if creating a new property)

Once set:

  • The default value is automatically applied to all newly created records
  • Users can still change the value during record creation if needed
  • The default applies everywhere records are created, including via manual entry, workflows, and APIs

What’s not included

Default values are not currently supported for the following property field types:

  • Calculations
  • Rollups
  • Syncs
  • Files
