When logging a note in a Deal that has a task associated, the only option provided to save the note is “Save Note and Complete Task”. Most of the time I do not want to complete the task because the note I am leaving is actually to follow up with the Deal Owner requesting additional info/status. It would be great if another button was added saying “Save Note but Do Not Complete Task” or just “Save Note” and a checkbox that would need to be checked in order to complete task.

This should only occur when you open a deal record through a task, not when you open just the deal record.
For example, if you click on a task that’s associated to a deal, your URL would likely look something like this: HubSpot
You can see that you’re accessing the deal through a task due to the appended ?taskID. If you remove that part of the URL (anything after/including ?taskID), you’re not inside of the task view any more and can log a note regularly.
I know that you’re probably looking still for a way to log a note to a deal in task view without completing the task.

This did not solve it for me. I am accessing the deal directly, not through the task. I cannot create and save a note without completing the task also.
I would love to have the functionality to save a note without completing a task, while going through tasks. Would save a lot of time.
Why should I have to complete the task in order to just create a note for it?

I did some digging on the behavior and it seems that this is currently a product limitation when logging a note or other activity and working on tasks.
As Karsten mentioned this Community Ideas Post is asking for this feature to be added.
Currently, this is “Being Reviewed” for adding functionality to be able to choose whether to complete a task or not when logging an activity or note and working from the task queue. I recommend upvoting and commenting on the post to boost its visibility, as it ties your email address to the post and you will be notified when there is any update on the idea.

This was fixed and then on June 3rd , it started not working again
This needs to be fixed. There should be an option to add a note without closing the task…very cumbersome to have to go to the customer to log a note and then back to the task to reschedule…
I am not accessing a deal or record via a task and it still makes me mark off the task. I’m leaving notes as the sales manager and do not want to complete my sales peoples tasks.
