Another question for you all. I’m trying to create a “Contacts Created by Source” chart. I know you can do it out-of-the-box pretty easily. The challenge I’m faceing is that I need more granularity than by grouping at the Original Traffic Source field - for certain scenarios.
For example, my company has an app where if you sign up you are added to the CRM via a home built API. Now, when those people are added in, their Original Traffic Souce = Offline Integration and the Original Traffic Souce Drill Down houses the “real” detail of where they’ve come from.
I know I can create a custom field to “level up” the detail stored in the Drill Down, my question / where I’m stumped is when it comes to report integration. Looks like you’re only allowed to “Group by” 1 field.
So, I’m looking for suggestions here. Are there any work arounds?
I’d ideally like to use the Original Traffic Source fields as HS automatically manages them - so that’s a big data quality / data management plus.
However, if I have to go the custom property route - would you guys all recommend setting the field values to some type of hybrid of Original Traffic Souce / the detail ones that are stored in Drill-Down 1 & 2 - and then creating a “master” workflow to populate it?
Open to other ideas too…

The only workaround I can think of here would be combining the information from the two fields you want to group by in one property. This could be achieved by:
- Creating a single-line text property, using a workflow to enroll all records with known source, then using ‘Edit record’ to set the value of the text property to the value of both properties you want to break down by: property 1 | property 2
- Creating a calculation property that concatenates both properties: Create calculation and rollup properties
Once you have this property, it would be the one you use for the breakdown.

Totally get what you’re trying to do, and yep, HubSpot’s reporting “group by” limitation is frustrating when you need that extra layer of detail.
The easiest workaround I’ve used is to create a custom property (like “Source Detail Combined”) and then use a workflow to fill it with something like: Original Source | Drilldown 1
That way, you can group by that single field in your report and still get the extra context you need.
It’s not perfect, but it works, and you still get the benefit of HubSpot managing the Original Source automatically. Just make sure your workflow keeps things clean if Drilldown values change.
Would love to see HubSpot make multi-field grouping easier someday, but until then… this gets the job done!
