Hi,
I am using a marketplace theme, with a child-theme setup to edit certain files from the parent theme.
In the marketplace downloads section, I’ve noticed that the theme has a last updated date. Do the marketplace themes auto-update their files?
My concern is that any updates to the parent theme might conflict with new setups in the child theme (for instance if a new child theme file is working based on a file in the parent theme)
If they do auto-update is there a way to stop this & would this cause issues with HubSpot CMS version updates in the future?
Thanks in advance for any insight!
Hey, @MattC47
Thanks for the great question. I did a bit of digging for us. Here what I did, and didn’t, find.
These documents don’t have the detail you are after:
But, buried in our friend — HubSpot Template Marketplace Customers | Frequently Asked Questions, I believe I found our answer:
“When you update to the latest version of a template or module, a new version of the template or module will be created in your account. This ensures that any customizations that you’ve made to the template or module don’t get overwritten automatically.”
Best,
Jaycee
Hello @MattC47
Hubspot does not automatically update files in your account when updates are made available for downloaded assets.
Files that you have modified within child themes will remain unaffected. However, files present in the parent theme will receive updates.
For instance, if you move a module or files from the parent theme to the child theme and subsequently make modifications, your website pages will consistently utilize the updated files from the child theme.
Thanks
This has not been my experience on the Starter Plan. We created a child theme. The theme automatically updated on our account and messed up the navigation and 2 modules within the website. We need the ability to be able to roll back theme updates the same way we can roll back files.
