Are there any Hubspot Warriors out there who have fully got their heads around the Lead Object VS Lead Status?
Would like to fully utilise the lead pipeline and all the great reporting that comes with it! And move into using sales and prospecting workspaces properly.
BUT there is something wiffy with my set up and i need…
a back to basics on the set up and how this pulls into the spaces
Some automation around a lead creation
Accuracy on what leads are showing as active
We are using Lead scoring at a basic level and have a work flow to move contacts to MQL and SQL based on their lead score threshold.
If anyone knows a nice slick (not to admin work for a sales rep) process for this pleasssssseeeee get in touch
Hey, here’s what’s worked for me to keep things simple and clear:
Think of the Lead Object as the bucket where all your leads live, every new contact starts there. Lead Status tracks where each lead is in the pipeline (like New, Open, In Progress). Having clear, consistent statuses that match real sales stages is key so your team always knows what’s next without confusion.
For automation, you can set up workflows to move leads between statuses based on actions or lead scores, sounds like you’re already on that. Just make sure your lead score thresholds actually reflect real buying signals, so your MQLs and SQLs mean something.
To keep your reps from drowning in admin, keep statuses simple and automate as much as possible, like auto-assigning tasks or updating lead status after calls or emails. HubSpot’s sales and prospecting workspaces are great for focusing reps only on active leads by filtering out those not sales-ready.
One thing I found super helpful is building a dashboard that shows active leads by status, so everyone can quickly get a pulse on pipeline health. Also, regularly reviewing your statuses and automations helps keep things tight.
Hi @SBale! The Leads Object is the new and improved Lead Status! I find it best to pick one and drop the other… having access to both causes confusion among the team.
I’m not a huge fan of Lead Status… it’s just a contact and company field with no inherent automation, there isn’t even a connection from the field on the contact level to the same field on the company level and vice versa.
The Leads Object, however, is HubSpot’s version of the distinction between contact and lead in Salesforce. The Leads Object includes out-of-the-box automation, and of course you can create additional custom automation via workflows. And the cherry on top, Sales Seats get the Sales Workspace, a one-stop-shop for all things sales, including Leads.
Here are some steps to get you on track:
internally define what a “Lead” is
are all new contacts a Lead?
are Leads just the hottest of the hot contacts?
are Leads automatically created or is it up to Sales/BDRs to manually determine who’s cool enough?
if they’re auto-created, is it when they hit a certain Lifecycle Stage? X number of points in Lead Scoring? gold star behavior like submitting a specific form?
