I’m working on building up my understanding on HubSpot’s Leads object and prospecting or sales workspace. It’s been out for a while now, so early content from when it was in beta is already out of date.
I’d love to understand how folks are using it, so that when I train someone I have examples.
For instance, Ryan Gunn caled it a “pre-Deal object” in a video and I love that perspective.
I also read, “It allows for multiple lead creation for a single contact, enabling tracking of renewed sales opportunities over time” and that makes sense. But I’d really love a good story, even a video, from people using this today and how it looks.
What’s better about Leads rather than using “lead stage” or just creating Deals? How does the workspace work better than living in the Tasks index?
What do you wish it did? What are limitations you’ve found?
Essentially I’m in full curiosity mode so I can better teach and train clients.
Hey @danmoyle
It has been a great experience working with the leads object (prospecting workspace):
Firstly it helped me to explain to my customers that leads are potential customers, whereas Deals are opportunities in the sales pipeline. Leads can turn into deals once they are qualified. previously they were assuming that we should create a deal directly if we find any leads and then start prospecting them on the deal stages level but thanks to this new feature it removed the confusion: )
Few more Advantages:
- Integrated View: Offers a holistic overview of all prospecting activities, unlike the Tasks index which is solely task-focused.
- Efficiency: Allows quick access to schedules, tasks, and activity feeds, streamlining workflow and decision-making.
Thanks for the perspective @Gaurav_Aggarwal!
Hi @danmoyle
I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it, if I’m honest.
The object and idea behind is sound:
- calling it a “pre-Deal object” is spot on and a nice “bridge” between contact and deal - let’s face it how many “qualification” deal stages have we all seen that artificially inflate a sales pipeline with no chance of ever closing
- unlike y’old Lead Status contact property I can properly managed and report on repeated sales qualification attempts
The execution behind it is, erm clunky - and I haven’t yet decided if that’s an oversight or intentional:
- Checking the data model, “Leads” is an object - yet…
- even as a Super Admin I can not see Leads in the main object overview dropdown options
- I can’t build Leads lists
- But I can build workflows
- Fair enough you want me to use the prospecting/sales workspace, but I can only use that with a paid seat (intentional?), and that workspace is kinda customised/optimised for a sales rep not for an admin
- The customisation options for the workspace are pretty much non-existent, so if - for whatever reasons - a company wants to focus on something other than what HubSpot assumed, it becomes a meh-experience
My honest impression - this got done to be on par with Salesforce, but it got rushed. it’s not half bad but not an amazing game changer and somehow I am missing the “reiterate often” part of the “release quickly, reiterate often” slogan that heard so frequently whilst being on the inside…
Thanks for the thoughtful perspective @franksteiner79!
