Installation app failure

My public OAuth app is already set to "distribution": "marketplace" in app-hsmeta.json, with read-only CRM scopes (contacts, companies, deals) plus oauth. But installing it into any production account fails with: “The app could not be installed because the app developer has not signed the acceptable use policy.” (Installing into a developer test account works fine.)

I understand that once the Acceptable Use Policy is signed, a marketplace-distribution app can be installed by up to 25 accounts before listing. But where exactly do I sign the AUP? I can’t find a standalone place in my developer account. I’ve read that it’s accepted during the listing Submit for review step — but the listing flow won’t let me select my app, because it requires 3 active installs first, which I can’t get because installs are blocked. It’s circular.

How do I sign/accept the AUP so I can enable my first production installs? Thanks!

Hey @MarcelHollaar,

Thanks for posting in the Community!

I found this Community post, where the Accepted Solution provides the following context:

The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) lives in your app’s distribution settings, not in the main account settings, so it’s easy to miss. Here’s where to find it:

  1. Go to your developer account and open the app.
  2. Click the Distribution tab
  3. Click Begin publishing (or Continue publishing if you’ve previously started)
  4. From there you should be able to review and re-sign the AUP

I hope this helps!

Great Thank you this solved my problem!

Thank you this is the way. It solved my problem thank you!

That definitely sounds like a catch-22.

From what I know, the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) isn’t something you sign separately in your developer account. It’s typically accepted as part of the Marketplace app listing/review process. If production installs are already being blocked with an AUP error before you can reach that stage, it sounds more like an account or app-state issue than expected behavior.

I’d recommend opening a HubSpot Developer Support ticket with your app ID. They can verify whether the AUP flag is missing on your developer account or if there’s another prerequisite preventing production installs. This doesn’t match the normal pre-listing install flow.
