Information technology

Hello I am doing a research project on the company and would like some help on a few questions from the experts.

The structure of the IT function that supports this system is discussed (i.e., is there a

separate IT department?

Who runs it?

Does the organization outsource the IT function?

Are IT issues handled locally, or by the corporate office?

Who is responsible for upgrading and maintaining the software, and how often is this done?

Is there a single “guru” who maintains the system in smaller companies?

Hi @shannonrayy,

  • Maintenance: HubSpot is a SaaS/Cloud-based software so you don’t need to care about maintenance/updates like in selfhosted CMS e.g WordPress or Joomla. Updates will be done by the HubSpot team and rolled out to every HubSpot user worldwide. If there is a big update/change coming you will most likely have a few weeks/month to check the beta(you will see a turquoise bubble at the bottom left corner of the corresponding function with “check the beta”. It’s up to you to test it and give feedback)
  • “single guru”: This depends on you/your company/your client. HubSpot has a role-system build in where you can decide which user can access/edit/publish changes. E.g: A marketer can access and change marketing relevant things like the CRM and if you want you can restrict the rights to even see the developers parts like the Design-Manager. Vice-versa …
  • “outsourcing”: If you mean your company/client by organization - it’s up to you. You can do nearly everything by yourself in HubSpot but if you want you can work with a HubSpot partner agency like one I’m working for(Thought Leader Systems; based in Germany). There are some partner tier levels and depending on your company/client I would suggest to go with a high-class partner for the best possible result. You can find all official HubSpot parnters here
  • “IT issues”: If you develop custom parts for your HubSpot portal(e.g themes, templates, modules), you can maintain them locally. But there is no “local” HubSpot version availible. If you would run into technical HubSpot problems, there is a great support which will help you. For support on bought themes/templates I think that the the corresponding developers/manufacturers will help you. And for custom solutions there is the community
  • “who runs it”: HubSpot is a north american company based in Cambridge.

Hope this helps

best,

Anton

Wow thanks a lot! This helped

Hello @shannonrayy ,

Are you doing a research project on HubSpot ? I don’t think this is the place where you will get answers for internal processes at HubSpot. I would start here

Good luck!

Hello,

I’m currently conducting a research project on your company and would greatly appreciate your expertise in answering a few questions regarding the Technology aspect:

  1. What is the structure of the IT function that supports the company’s system? Is there a separate IT department in place?
  2. Who is responsible for running the IT department? Is it managed internally or outsourced to a third-party service provider?
  3. How are IT issues typically handled within the organization? Are they managed locally or by the corporate office?
  4. In terms of software maintenance and upgrades, who is responsible for these tasks? How frequently are software upgrades performed?
  5. In smaller companies, is there a designated “guru” or individual who maintains the system?

Your insights would be invaluable for my research project. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

The structure of an organization’s IT function varies based on its size and industry. Larger companies typically have a dedicated IT department, led by a CIO or CTO, handling diverse IT tasks. IT issues are often managed centrally. Smaller companies may rely on a single “guru” or a small team, and may outsource specific IT functions. Software maintenance and upgrades are performed regularly, guided by vendor recommendations and organizational needs. The scope of technology within a company is linked to its business objectives, industry, and the effectiveness of technology integration into operations to achieve those goals.

In most companies, there is usually a dedicated IT department led by an IT manager or CTO, depending on the size of the organization. Larger companies often handle IT centrally at the corporate level, while smaller ones may manage it locally or rely on external providers (outsourcing). Maintenance, updates, and system upgrades are typically handled by internal IT staff or contracted vendors on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly, or as needed for security patches). In smaller businesses, it’s also common to have a single IT specialist or “guru” responsible for managing and maintaining the system.
