I am tired of the lack of support from HubSpot, so I am moving this to the community. I am hoping someone has gone further down the rabbit hole and found the answer when the HubSpot support team seems to not even understand the question.
We have three different HubSpot Outlook ribbon icons in our environment, albeit we are actively trying to erradicate the legacy, orange COM add-in.
We have the orange (old COM add-in), a blue Sales Tools icon (modern add-in), and a different red Sales Tools icon that is a different variety of the modern add-in. From all of our testing, the blue icon version is the preferred version of the Outlook add-in. See the different icons in the images below.
So despite what HubSpot support thinks, there are absolutely 3 versions of the Outlook integration app out there - with all versions of Outlook being the same across our enterprise. I have uninstalled all add-ins from my device, which has the red icon, using the documents in the KB - including wiping the 2.0 folder contents and registry keys that it said “as last result” - waited for everything to go away, rebooted like 17 times, verified that everything was still gone - then installed the modern add-in again with the same instructions for the HubSpot KB. The result - the red icon again. No bueno.
So my questions - how do I install the blue icon -and - what is the real difference between the red and blue icon?
The one item I found in the blue icon versus the red icon, that I really, really like - is that when I have previously logged an email and now the thread is going back and forth, the contacts already being “tracked” back and forth in the thread do NOT appear in the HubSpot Sales tool under Log Records. This is an awesome feature as it basically helps you understand how might be newly added to the thread.
So - community of people smarter than me - does anyone understand how you actually control which application add-in is installed and how you can “force” the blue icon that seems to be more feature-rich.
Hey @Owens-KK, thank you for posting in our Community!
It sounds like you’re running into a conflict with the installation process. To get the blue icon (modern add-in), you’ll need to ensure that only the correct version is installed and that all traces of the old COM add-in are removed properly. Sometimes even after uninstalling, remnants can cause the wrong version to show up again.
To “force” the blue icon, double-check that you are using the HubSpot Sales Outlook integration available in the Office Store and that no legacy add-ins are lingering. You might also want to clear any caches and settings in Outlook before reinstalling the add-in.
As for the differences, the red icon could be an older version of the modern add-in with fewer features or bugs that were addressed in the blue one, like the thread tracking feature you mentioned.
I hope this helps,
Pam
Unfortunately I am 100% sure that the legacy COM add-in was not present as this was a brand new laptop build that never had the legacy add-in. Also, the red icon is absolutely a version of the modern add-in. Just in case the color descriptions are not clear, I am talking about the version of the HubSpot icon that has a red circle around it versus the old one where the HubSpot icon itself was orange.
Modern App
Legacy App (from an older machine)
What I dont understand is why there is no documentation on the modern add-ins - like build versions or anything else that would help someone determine if the right plug-in is installed. There is no feature list either, another disappointment. In addition, you can still install the old, deprecated, unsupported add-in from the HubSpot user administration portal - why???
With the integration into Outlook probably being the most important add-in for the product, it is shocking how hard it is to get help on this topic.
Can anyone reading this thread simple reply with what color their modern add-in is in Outlook?
Hi @Owens-KK ,
After wrestling with HubSpot for a few days because it was constantly logging users out of the Outlook Addin, I can confirm a fresh deployment of HubSpot Sales Office 365 add-in (aka HubSpot Sales Tools), with the current version being 3.6, the add-in button is a BLUE icon while using Outlook Classic BUT is then shown as the old ORANGE HubSpot logo when you switch into Outlook (New).
