Custom Report Builder Help

Hi - Looking to use custom report builder to build a report that can list all customers in a matrix with the marketing emails we have sent to them and indicate/flag which of those emails they have clicked. The AI tool only works for single-object reporting… Anyone have an idea on where to begin?

Thanks!

Hi @GWalsh,

I played around with this a bit and even in portals with very little data (small count of contacts, small number of emails, limiting events to only a couple of days), a resulting table or pivot table is too large for HubSpot to display:

If you have contacts as rows and marketing emails as columns, to create your desired matrix, this very quickly becomes a gigantic table – which would be both slow to navigate, and secondly HubSpot would be cutting off a lot of data (see the recent yellow flag “Limited data”).

Instead of visualizing this in a report, have you considered simply looking up this information on the contact timelines, by filtering for marketing email activity? Filter activity index pages and record timelines

Alternatively, you can always build lists and filter for all contacts who clicked a specific email: Create segments

Both do of course not create a matrix but are ways to approach the data in a way that doesn’t break (see screenshot above).

Best regards!

Thanks, Karsten. Unfortunately, we are looking to filter by specific email types and show this data to sales users. I know we can search on a contact-specific basis, but we are looking to create historical engagement across a subscription type for a region’s contacts.

The email actions export on specific emails (that show clicked, opened, closes, bounces, etc.) would be more beneficial if we could marry it to contact properties inside of the sytsem. That does not seem to be possible either, without exporting and combining files.

@GWalsh you’re correct, this is not possible. (I just now understood you were referring to marketing emails, by the way.)

Can you maybe explain in a bit more detail which purpose such a report would serve? How would the insights generated be actioned? Regardless of how it’s configured, it would be impractically large. Who would look at it, what would they do with it? What you’re trying to achieve feels like something that maybe should be tackled from another angle.
