Click Tracking CTAs

Hello!

Could you please help me understand the difference between those 2 options in the CTA options tab? We are looking into finding the best option but the explanations provided are not enough.

Thank you!

Hey @KSergieva11

  • Track clicks through redirect: track clicks to your CTA by directing visitors to an initial URL, which associates the click with the CTA, before redirecting them to the final page. This option is selected by default.
  • Track clicks through the browser: tracks clicks asynchronously via the visitor’s browser. This option allows you to use anchor tags as there are no redirects, the CTA will direct visitors to the set URL.

Hi @Jigar_Thakker

Thanks, I saw that explanation on the information icons, but it was still unclear which one to use when.

Hey @KSergieva11

Happy to help here i would suggest going with the default option initially and then once you start tracking the CTAs if it is not meeting your requirements you can go with another option.

Hey @Jigar_Thakker ,

Sorry, this is still not answering my question. I am looking to understand what is the main difference between them, otherwise I can’t define my goal and what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Hi @KSergieva11,

I’ll do my best to try and explain, both options depend on how you have your link setup to handle the CTAs on your website as there’s primarily two different ways to track a CTA. Both options essentially need a way to know that the link has been clicked and who clicked it. The first option is via a redirect, this means that when they click the link they go to a specific URL, for example sake, let’s say Redirect.com this link acts as a middle man that takes the users details and where they came from. Once this information is gathered it redirects them to the end url, let’s say www.whereyouwantedthemtogo.com. The benefit of this redirect is you can use different URLs for different sources without having to change the end destination allowing you to compare which source gets you the most clicks. So for example you could have Redirect.com for email clicks and Redirect.com for socialmedia but the end user would always still end up at www.whereyouwantedthemtogo.com. The second way does not move the visitor through a different link first; instead, it keeps track of the click directly through the visitor’s internet browser as soon as they click, letting the CTA link work more smoothly by taking them straight to the intended page without any detour. However, this requires more coding knowledge and compatibility with each browser. Therefor the first option is the most common. I hope this helps clarrify.

Thank you very much!

Hi @HubSpot_Corey , thank you for the helpful explanation. Why does the second options require more coding?
