Checkbox on form not working

Hello,

I have a checkbox on a form asking contacts if they are an employee of an certain organization or not, so obviously the results should be yes/no. When I look at the submissions, I do indeed have some folks that have yes or no for that property on their contact records. However some people that have filled out the form are showing blank for that field. If they don’t check the box, it should be showing as no or false.

Does anyone know why some submissions would show no response at all for that field?

Hi @LCarney,

That’s correct. If a contact does not tick a single checkbox, HubSpot will not pass on any information about that field and its value remains unknown.

As a workaround, you can click into the field in the forms editor and the left sidebar should open. Scroll down the sidebar (below the Label and Help Text) and you can set a default value, in your case “No”:

Hope this helps!

Hm I see that Default Value is already marked as “No” which would explain why I do have some submissions with No for that field. The submissions that have a missing value came in between December 2021 and January 2022 - could it possibly be just a glitch that has resolved itself? I can’t seem to recreate the issue on my own.

Hi @LCarney,

Yes, that’s possible, although I rarely encounter any actual glitches like this. You can double check the property history on those contacts by navigating to their record, clicking View all properties in the left sidebar, searching for your checkbox property, hovering your mouse over it and clicking Details. This should show a history.

If there has never been a value for this checkbox (although the contact submitted the form), there are still two options: either it is a glitch or the form was updated in the meantime to log “No” as the default value.

In any case, you could build a list of contacts who submitted the form and where this value is unknown and simply bulk update them to “No”.

Hope this helps!

I’ll do that, thank you Karsten!
