Are you really resting?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it really means to recharge. Taking time off doesn’t always mean we’re truly disconnecting — sometimes, we’re just “not working.” but still thinking about your endless list of responsibilities. What’s helped you step away and actually rest? Would love to hear what’s working (or not) for you. --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

Great topic - I struggle with this. It’s so easy for the mind to gravitate back to work throughout the day: when doing the grocery shopping, in the gym, watching a movie etc. The only things I find that really stop this are high-focus exercise or sports - not jogging/walking/cycling where you’ve the ability to wander with thoughts, I’m talking things like football, climbing, tennis, boxing, … where you really have to be present. Not very practical to get into the schedule regularly, so I make do with the gym and dog walks mostly! --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

Same. I definitely find exercise (yoga, tennis, group classes) is when my brain is the most “logged off”. even walking or listening to a podcast I find my mind drifting and I have to rewind constantly. I wish it weren’t but I guess that is how I’m wired lol. I started to notice a big change when I made it a habit but I’d love to be able to shift other parts of my regular routine to be more relaxing too. --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

I move between ‘I wish I could switch off’, and ‘I’m glad I don’t find it easy to switch off!’ A healthy middle would be a nice ‘mode’ to activate sometimes though :slightly_smiling_face: --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

I might have to get a dog! I have been dog sitting for the week and it is forcing me to get away from my desk a couple of times a day. I have taken the advantage to listen to my affirmations (which I recorded), along with my fight song. It clears my brain and reminds me what is important. A coach of mine then suggested when the dog leaves to put 3 - 30 min blocks in the day in the calendar to meditate, take a walk, listen to affirmations and be intentional about taking care of me. I am going to implement that next week! --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.

Getting a dog really changed my walking habits thats for sure :dog: --- This post was migrated from connect.com and was originally published at an earlier date.
