Adding Forwarding Email to Google Groups fails

Hi,

We are trying to add our forwarding email to Google Groups, as described here ( https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Tickets-Conversations/Sending-emails-from-Google-Groups-Email/td-p/755981 and Forward emails to a hosted email address in the conversations inbox ) but when trying to directly add the mail it fails in the Google Groups interface. It works with the same group and other “external” Email addresses though - just the forwarding email does not.

Is there any solution to this from Hubspot’s side? Thanks!

Hi @ClemensSch,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community!

It sounds like you were able to successfully set up the Google Groups account as a conversations inbox, but are seeing this error from Google Groups, is that correct?

Can you confirm if you tried out the steps in this external article from Google: “Add people to your group”?

Thank you!

Best,

Kristen

Hi,

I have set it up as Hubspot-fallback-Email as per the tutorial. Then tried to add the Forwarding mail as per hubspot’s tutorial and Google’s article directly as a member of the group and also checked that “Allow external members” is on - at some point I even allowed “Anyone in the web” to join.

I also tried to add the mail address as Super admin via the Google Workspace admin account + via the Groups interface, as well as normal group manager within the groups interface.

Hi kvlschaefe, any update on this? You liked the post but I am still somewhat in the dark!

Hi @ClemensSch,

Thanks for the tag! I apologize for the delay, our response time may be slower right now following HubSpot’s Global Week of Rest.

Since this is an error from Google, HubSpot doesn’t have much visibility into why it could be occurring.

This troubleshooting article for the error message from Google suggests it could be a typo with the email address or that the email is already a member of the group.

Could you try out the steps in that article? Thank you!

Best,

Kristen

Hi,

That wasn’t the issue. Apparently the issue was that the group was set up as a “security” group (you can check that in the admin console under “labels”). I had to recreate the Google Group without the “security” label. Then it worked as expected.

You may want to add that error source to your documentation :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @ClemensSch,

Thanks for your feedback and for explaining how you solved this.

Since this issue is not related to HubSpot, I’m not sure if we would include it in our documentation, but I’ll pass this suggestion along to our knowledge base team.

Thank you again for sharing :slightly_smiling_face:

Cheers,

Kristen
