@Belbel what are some examples of other task types that you'd like to create?

Yes, we could really do with having the ability to create our own task types.  Then we would be able to sort them accordingly and when we are looking at all the tasks together we could clearly see what we have to do with each one.  At the moment its just a jumbled mess looking at ALL tasks.  Does anyone else have a work around for this?

Hey HubSpot team... This request seems like one that is quite overdue. It comes up constantly when clients are moving to HubSpot.

Systems like Pipedrive allow for custom activity types, so when you don't, the client loses some functionality and reporting capabilities. Custom Call and Meeting types are not sufficient because there are use cases where Tasks are mandatory, like if the activity is 'open' and requires a reminder.

Hubspot team, can you at least acknowledge this request. It is one of the most basic (yet critical) for easy entry of common task types and makes it easier for KPI/Progress tracking/ Activity Review with Sales team.
Pipedrive listens and acts on information, they have responded to several of my requests within 180 days (longest time frame). I feel like I am part of the developer team and that is awesome to affect positive change. Hope you folks can at least act on this one.

New to Hubspot - would really like this function. I work in sales and we have many more interactions with client than just calls and meetings (zoom, skype, whatsapp, sms etc)

Hello!!! Is there a product manager out there? Been using Hubspot 2 days. Generally pretty good. Spent 1/2 a day trying to figure out how to add custom "Type" for tasks. I can see it is available for Company Type but not Task Type. Finding this (years old) thread) confirmed I wasn't blind. Just not available. Kinda want to ask **bleep**?

- Interface idea available

- Obviously possible with data model

- Looks like a few requests every month for a few years

 

Is this the typical type of "responsivness" one should expect from Hubspot? What seems to be the problem? Baisc features need to work well before you spend aany time on new wizz bang stuff.

 

Please provide ASAP.

Hi, @WWallace9.

In my experience, HS is usually quite responsive. They responded same day
to an issue I posted in the community. It took about a week to 10 days,
but the issue is now fixed.

That said, this ongoing request to allow users to customize the task types
seems to be a lower priority for them.

I have discovered a work around that helps keep my tasks organized.

- I use the built in task feature queues. I created queues for each of my
different types of tasks.

- As part of my task creation process, I simply assign that task to the
correct queue. This allows me to sort my tasks by these queues, both in HS
Tasks, and in my gmail HS extension.

- For quick reference (and because I'm a visual), when I create a task, I
add an initial at the front of the task title to fit the desired category
(or queue). For example - NA for Next Action, E for email, R for Renewal,
etc. That gives me a visual of what queue it is in (or should be in).

My take is easy: Let's not overthink it. The request is easy as should be the solution. No need for going super fancy if anybody would ask me.


Keeping these 3 generic task types and only adding some tags/labels will add functionality, but will not tackle the underlying problem, which is your assumption, that Call/Email/Todo are the "correct top level task types" for all your customers.
Quite likely:
a) your customers have totally different "top level taks types" than Call/Email/ToDo and maybe they are not exactly 3.
b) they dont gain any benefit with the additional layer of complexity of lables/tags while still being limited to your 3 pre-defined top level categories.
Tags/Labels could make it actually more confusing, when they dont fit "under" the fixed top level task types.

==> Maybe it would be totally fine, just having a reaonably large number of task types one can setup on their own, which are descriptive enough, so they represent real work actions.

I fully agree, in additional to "type" I would also like to be able to edit the drop down options of "priority".

Hs this idea taken shape now.. it would make the life our sales team a lot easier but also for us (marketeers) to report on too.
