I have installed the Hubspot plug-in in my Wordpress website. However, when people are visiting the website, I do not get notifications. I am the Superuser, when I visit my own website, Hubspot alerts me that I visited the About page and so on.
However, I do not get notifications when my family members visit the website. These family members are listed as contacts in my CRM.
The attached photos show the notifications are configured correctly and a notification when I visit the website About page.
Hi @PThind this is most likely caused because you have them in your CRM, but you added them manually and/or they didn’t convert on your website - your website hasn’t placed a cookie in their browser that can identify them as such.
If one of them fills out a form on your website, it will connect their browser (via cookie) to their contact in the CRM and allow you to get notifications. Otherwise, the website has no way of knowing which contact is using which browser.
Thanks Jennifer, that seems to be the case. So, if I add customers to my CRM, send them emails, I can track whether they opened the emails. But with website, there is no way, unless they signed up via a Form etc.
For email opens, it is based on a 1x1 pixel that has to load to determine whether the email was opened - this can be triggered by a bot, specifically with the changes Apple and Google have made to email deliverability. A better indicator would be if they click something in the email.
There are ways to create links in an email that would pass the CRM data to the browser when they open a page, which in turn could associate with the cookie in the browser, but the easier way would be to get your leads via inbound methods where they are providing you with information directly, typically through a website form.
For example, if they engage with a post on social media, it would go to a landing page that prompts them to submit additional information that could then track their web activity in the future (as long as they don’t clear their cookies).
I know this information can be very valuable and allow you to know when your leads are actively thinking about you to make your follow up more receptive, but there are other strategies you can employ to improve your sales process that would be a better investment of your time.
Thanks Jennifer, my challenge is this. I run a boutique billboard business and I cold call customers, most of them will agree to me sending them an email proposal with billboard details/pricing etc. When I send them the proposal, I create their contact in Hubspot. So my prospects will almost never visit my website and fill in a form unless I do some digital marketing. I have never advertised on Social Media etc to capture leads. I am wondering if I should.
you’re welcome @PThind, I really woldn’t worry about website revisit notifications then (your original question). I would focus on other aspects of the CRM that can help you with managing your leads and converting your cold calls into deals.
Since you have a process that’s working for cold calls, I think you have a little time to explore what marketing strategy might be best. There are a lot of partners that can help you when you’re ready - I’ve added a few filters to the list here to help you get started.
Since you have a boutique billboard business, you can start by checking out what your competitors are doing. In my area, Lamar Advertising is a major OOH advertiser that has a good social media presence. Understanding what platforms your competitors are using, what types of posts resonate, etc. will help you get started on social media.
I actually built something for exactly this—VisitorPing. It shows you who’s on your website right now, where they came from, which pages they visit, and how long they spend on each one. You can also watch their mouse movement live to see what they’re looking at and clicking.
It notifies you the moment someone new arrives or appears to be a serious buyer. Heads up though: the initial setup (adding the tracking snippet) has to happen on the web dashboard—the iOS app can’t do that part. Once it’s set up, you can use either the iOS app or the web dashboard day to day.
There’s more beyond live tracking too—QR code, Google Maps/social media link tracking, and a full SEO toolkit.
Full disclosure: I’m the developer, happy to help if you run into any issues.
