I need to use specific parameters for some email links. Everyone says “Use the UTM Builder” but I can’t find any real info about using it.
Am I just creating a UTM code there and adding the code to my link in the email, or is there some automatic thing going on? How will it stop the automatic Hubspot UTM from taking over?
In my situation I will be using the same URL, but from three different emails and we want to see which email brings in the most traffic. Usual stuff.
Thank you!
Hi @TRichards6,
The most important part is that you check your marketing email tracking settings: Manage marketing email open and click tracking
By default, HubSpot will override all parameters with its own. You can select that it won’t touch parameters it finds in an email ( = yours).
Other than that, no special HubSpot magic. Parameters work like they always do. The main thing the HubSpt tracking URL tool and the automatic email parameters do is that they autogenerate values based on, for example, the HubSpot campaign name. From a general functionality standpoint, it’s interchangeable with any other tracking URL tool: it concatenates.
Best regards
I’m afraid that many the UTM does get wiped out on many of my links. Not all, but many. Is there anything I need to do differently? This is my setting in Tracking. Add tracking if no existing.
