Typeform submission Source is Unkown

I am using Typeform on our website for lead collection, basically visitors fill this form (integrated with Typeform/Hubspot) but the marketing channel (source) is Unknown (“This contact was created from Direct Traffic from Unknown URL”) even though we pass cookie on the submission page and followed instruction from both Typeform/Hubspot.
This is a massive issue for scaling our marketing and we couldn’t identify the problem, Has anyone else have the same experience and can help?

Any non-HubSpot tool that creates contacts in HubSpot will always have limitations. I’ve run into similar issues with several integrations (Calendly, Call.com) that will set the original source for contacts to “Offline Sources” from integration. Even though the contact came through the integration from a specific source, their point of entry into HubSpot was through an integration, so that’s how HubSpot treats them.

Here are 3 potential solutions:

1. Use HubSpot forms instead. I’m sure you have a good reason for not using HubSpot forms currently, but this switch should allow you to capture all of the conversion data you’re after. If it’s an issue of getting data into another system, you can always add an integration layer, like Zapier, to capture the data in HubSpot and then send it wherever it needs to go.

2. Supplement data with Google Analytics. Not gonna lie — this option is kind of a drag, but I’ve seen clients use it before. Assuming you have Google Analytics goals tied to form submissions, you should be able to see original source data as it pertains to goal completions. If you look at the timing of the form submissions in HubSpot and the timing of the goal completion in Google Analytics, you may be able to match up and manually update contacts accordingly. Depending on your lead volume, this could help.

3. Use a two-part form. If you 100% need to use Typeform, consider leveraging a two-part form. Part 1 is a HubSpot form that will capture the needed initial conversion data. It could be as simple as email address! Part 2 is a Typeform form that contains all other needed data points. Worst case scenario, the lead abandons the second part of the form — but you’ve at least captured their initial data and conversion info.

Hope this helps! HubSpot/Typeform support may also be able to help if you haven’t reached out to them yet. Thanks!

This happens with some integrations where the developer has only built a basic integration without the additional data points you are looking for. You would have to reach out to Typeform to get them to add this into their integration if you would like to see it automated by them. Alternatively if you are collecting UTM parameters you could create a workflow in Hubspot for your own source field so that you can tell from the UTM parameters what led to the submission.
