Tooltips or Hover over field

Hello,

I’m looking to know how am I able to create Tooltips or a popup when users hover over certain fields that give a definition/description of the respective fields. This will only be for a few fields on the deal level but I’m not sure how to go about creating this in HubSpot.

Hi Cody - happy to help.

Currently, HubSpot does not support native functionality for adding tooltips or hover-over popups directly to fields within the CRM (my clients wish they did, too, lol). However, you can achieve a similar outcome through a couple of alternative methods:

  1. Custom Properties with Descriptions: When you create or edit custom properties in HubSpot, you can add descriptions to them. These descriptions appear as small question marks next to the property name on the record. When users hover over the question mark, they see the description. This is not a traditional tooltip but serves a similar purpose in providing additional information.
  2. Using HubSpot’s Knowledge Base: You could create detailed entries in the HubSpot Knowledge Base to explain various fields and link these entries in the property description or in a pinned note at the deal level. This way, users can click the link to read more about the fields.

Let me know if this makes sense and if you have any other questions!

Hi @CClark3,

Natively, this is unfortunately not possible at this stage. HubSpot does not offer this level of customization. Currently, you would have to hover over a field, click ‘Details’, the right sidebar opens and shows the description you added in the property settings.

However, other users have requested this before: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Properties-should-have-a-hover-functionality-showing-the/idi-p/335252

These requests submitted to the HubSpot Ideas section of the community are reviewed by the HubSpot product team, based on their popularity and the assumed demand. I’d recommend commenting and upvoting.

You can also help other HubSpot users find this request more easily (and drive traction) by accepting my reply as a solution. I’d appreciate it, too.

Have a great day!
