Properties should have a hover functionality showing the Property Field Description.
Our teams has found that our employee onboarding process would be much quicker and more intuitive if team members were able to see the Contact and Company Property Field Descriptions from their usual interface. Specifically, while they are adding new contacts or working with contact or contact list.
We suggest a hover functionality allowing us to view the Property Descriptions when hovering over the Property Name.
we have some hubspot customers who work with quite an amount of indivual contact, company oder deal properties. Some of them have very internation sales organisations with team in multiple countries.
For them, it is really important to have the same understanding of what is meant with a properties.
Creating a new property, we have the possibility to add an internal description. That is perfect.
Even better would be, if we could have that internal description as a pop up when you hover over a certain property (or as a small info icon). Like you have the possibility to click on details to see the property history (where we have a small window on the right - that would be also an option).
We could make this optional when creating a new property as it might not be necessary for every property.
I feel the same way! A hover on the property name is much more efficient.
Best practice for property names is to keep them short. One or two words max. When the column headers on reports or list views are short, it esthetically looks better and it's more functional.
That being said, one or two words does not always provide the user with enough details. Hover text is quick and easy. Nothing to open or close. Just hover then click the pencil to edit the property.
This is the reason we have Property Name and Property Description! The functionality is there!
Great idea, would love the capability as described above by @ChristianRieck to be available for all fields for Companies, Contacts, Deals objects. We can then determine which fields need to have the feature turned on.
Interestingly, it is there for fields that are controlled by HubSpot so why can't it be turned on for other fields?
Yes this capability would help so much with a smooth onboarding and adoption with our team, promoting consistency without needing staff to refer back to resource documents to remind them what it is they need to do.
I am finding that the popups are very disruptive and make it hard to navigate when I'm trying to complete properties. If the property description is long, it completely covers up other parts of the screen I need to see. Is there any way to create a delay? So that there's a specific amount of time you need to hover on the property before the description pops up? Currently, it is immediate and that is very distracting. Or to turn the option on or off? Make it optional?
An admin works hard to include documentation in property descriptions. but when those fields appear in a hubspot create obj form, the user can't easily view the description?
I'd like a little i circle similar to the one next to dependent fields that will show the property description when a user clicks on it.
Any extensions that do this would require double work, slow down, clutter the user experience.

Tooltips with property description is a feature we would like as well.
Our specific usecase is mainly for when propertys are shown to update when moving deal stages. In the previous UI, tool tips of property description used to show. However with the recent udate, the tool tip no longer shows.
Usecase:
We would like the values in free text properties to be somewhat standardized. So in the property description, we have a template for what needs to be entered.
When reps need to fill out the property value, they can easily reference the tool tip to follow (copy and paste) the stadard format of how the property value should be entered.

Now that tool tips do not show, reps do not have a reference on how the values should be entered.
Resulting in our property values being messy with no standardization.
This is absolutely something Hubspot should introduce, and makes perfect sense if they want to service at the enterprise level. With potentially thousands of properties, we want to empower our users to know the meaning behind each of them, and with ease.
Agree! This will help with streamlining how customers, Deals, etc... and inputted, so anyone inputting or reviewing can better understand why a specific option was selected. We have taken time to define each of the properties, but sales team doesn't have time/ability to pull up the list of definitions everytime a customer/deal is being added/updated. Hovering would expediate the process AND make the field updated and more accurate.
Definitely need this. It would be super helpful for users from different teams to know what different properties do. Going into details is an extra step most users simply dont take. Also, on the central pane it is not possible even to see the details on the property.
