Hi, I set up a workflow with 6 main emails. When a contact does not click an email, they get a forward version of that email (so there are 12 total emails used in the workflow), and then go to the path of the next ‘main’ email. The forwards are set up to send from sales team members who are assigned owners of each contact’s company. With the forwrads, a forward is delayed 3 days for contacts that a sales team member has sent a saled email to in the last 2 days. I use the contact property Last activity date for that - if its less than 2 days ago, they go to a branch they delays the forward. If not the go to the one for criteria not met.
When I test the workflow (‘Send me previews of all the marketing emails in this path’), only emails/forwards through the third main email deploy (in the test). Emails from the forward to the 3rd email onward to not go. Do you know what that is? What could be wrong?
Hi @nbrown,
It sounds like the test function isn’t sending all emails beyond the third main email, which could be due to a few possible reasons. Here are some things to check:
Are the Later Emails Set to Active?
Go into the workflow and make sure that all emails after the third main email are published and ready to send.
If an email is still in draft mode or unpublished, it won’t be included in the test.
Are the Branching Conditions Working as Expected?
Since you’re using “Last Activity Date” to determine the path, double-check that your test contact meets the conditions for advancing past the third email.
Try removing or adjusting the delay condition temporarily to see if the missing emails get sent.
Are There Enrollment or Exit Conditions That Stop Contacts?
If a contact meets an exit condition at any point in the workflow, they won’t continue receiving emails.
Check the workflow history to see if test contacts are being removed at a specific step.
Does the Workflow Use Smart Sending or Suppression Lists?
If contacts are on a suppression list or marked as unengaged, some emails may be skipped.
If Smart Sending is enabled, check if the missing emails are being held back because the test contact has already received similar emails.
Does This Happen Only in Testing?
Sometimes, the test function doesn’t replicate every single scenario the way live contacts would go through the workflow.
Try enrolling a test contact manually and tracking if the same issue happens when the workflow runs live.
Usually when test emails aren’t going out, it’s because HubSpot is either skipping contacts due to settings or something else minor. I’d start by checking your workflow history—sometimes it clearly shows why emails were skipped. Also, double-check if there are frequency caps or suppression rules kicking in. And don’t forget to confirm your test contacts aren’t unsubscribed or bounced
