I wonder if someone could point me to the right direction:
My company has a custom API integration with Stripe, which prevents us from using the automatic Stripe plugin in HubSpot. This is causing an issue where we are unable to associate deals with customers until the payment has been received.
We are struggling to automate a workflow where a payment link is sent to a customer after they fill out a form, and the deal is then automatically associated with the customer. Our website developers have a custom API integration with HubSpot and Stripe, which is preventing them from using the normal Stripe integration.
We are considering using a secondary payment gateway like PayPal or WorldPay as a potential solution, but we are unsure if there are any quick wins. We are trying to move all their reporting into HubSpot, as they currently have to download data into spreadsheets from multiple sources.
If anyone here had a similar issue and found a solution I would love to hear about it or connect.
Hey, @IWhite8
If you can, you are welcome to have your customer post or reply here as well. It might make to easier for our community experts to share their information. This sounds like a challenge, for sure.
One piece of the puzzle to consider is the Payments API which just expanded
from read-only to read/write access, which allows the logging of external payments if you go that route. This means your developers could potentially have your custom Stripe integration create a payment record directly in HubSpot after a payment is made, solving your reporting issue.
If you have any additional details or limitations you can share that may help give our community members more to work with. Sometimes knowing what is not possible is helpful too.
Best,
Jaycee
Thank you very much. I have recommended that my customer continue this communication and share more details here. Hopefully, we will gain a better understanding of what the solution may look like. Many thanks!
Hi @IWhite8
Sounds like your main roadblock is that the native HubSpot Stripe app can’t be used because you already have a custom API setup. That’s why deals and payments aren’t lining up cleanly.
The good news: HubSpot’s Payments API recently expanded to allow not only read but also write access. That means your dev team could post payment records into HubSpot as soon as Stripe confirms the transaction.
Once those payments are logged, you can associate them directly with deals and contacts for full reporting. HubSpot’s developer docs on the Payments API are here:
(Accounts Dashboard | HubSpot)
For the form-to-payment flow you described, a common pattern is: HubSpot form submission > create deal + send Stripe payment link (via custom code or workflow) > when Stripe confirms payment, push that into HubSpot with the Payments API > update the deal stage and keep reporting unified. That avoids having to layer in PayPal or WorldPay unless you truly need multiple gateways.
For what it’s worth, we see this setup a lot. Many teams start with spreadsheets and manual exports, and then hit the wall you’re describing. That’s actually why we built Stacksync: to handle real-time two-way sync between HubSpot and systems like Stripe without the brittle custom plumbing.
Instead of one-off API calls, every update flows instantly both ways, and reporting stays consistent. On average, teams cut their integration maintenance time in half.
Happy to share a walkthrough if it’d help you test whether it fits your use case.
Hope this helps.
