Why can’t I use Smart Rules with message templates? I’m in the same situation as with marketing emails, as I don’t want to create each template multiple times—for example, for the salutation.
Hey @MUmstadt,
Welcome to the Community!
Smart Rules are supported in Marketing Emails (if you have Marketing Hub Pro or Enterprise) but for now that functionality doesn’t extend to Message Templates just yet.
That said, this sounds like a great candidate for the HubSpot Ideas Forum if you’d like to submit it as a feature request! In the meantime, it might be worth taking a look at Personalization Tokens in Templates to see if that helps with what you’re looking for. If this didn’t quite hit the mark, please reply with a few more details about your goal. From there out Community should be able to further assist!

Thanks @stassey
Yes, we have that feature in our marketing emails. That’s precisely why I don’t understand why it can’t be implemented in the message templates as well. I have customers there too, whom I want to address differently on the same topic – for example, using informal or formal address.
Hi @MUmstadt and thanks for getting back to us!
At the moment, Smart Rules aren’t available for CRM message templates, those are only supported in marketing emails. Message templates currently allow for personalization tokens, but conditional options like formal versus informal salutations would still require separate templates right now.
If having this feature would make things easier for you, I’d love to see your suggestion in our Ideas Forum as my colleague Sam suggested. Sharing your feedback there helps our product team understand what’s important to users like you, and it’s a great way to have your voice heard for future updates! Sharing here the Idea that @MUmstadt created " Smart rules also for Message templates " so that other Community Members can upvote it too.
I’d love to check in with our Top Experts: Hi @karstenkoehler, @Josh and @franksteiner79 can you think of other workarounds to help @MUmstadt, please?
Thanks so much and have a lovely day!
