Smart Module in email not working

I am trying to send a follow-up email to an RSVP from a hubspot Form.

The two radio button options are Yes, I can attend, and No, I am not avaiable.

The subscribers are correctly captured, and I have dynamic Segments built off these field values .. correctly putting people into two different segments.

I have two test emails .. both successfully being put onto one of two Segments based on the acceptance rule.

When I sent the email, with a smarterule (and a smartmodule* is correcty flagged in the email editor .. based on which segment they are in) I am incorrectly getting both blocks fo copy each time, instead of the relevent once based on their response .. this is in Preview as contact, a test send, and also a live send … no matter which option I choose the resulting email shows all copy variants.

Has anyone exprrienced the same issue before . is there any other setting in the email which tells it not to send all copy variants to all people, but deploy using the smartrule?

Thanks

Robbie

Hi @RWilliams699,

Can you please share screenshots of how you currently have the smart rules configured? That’ll help with pinpointing what the issue could be.

It sounds like one of the modules might repeat content that is already added before it, resulting in duplicate content.

If you’re not comfortable with that (since this is a public forum), you could reach out to HubSpot support in-app via chat or email and they can investigate what’s going on.

Best regards

Thankyou Karsten .. I have set them up in this manner

I have one email address which is in the decline segment, and one which is in the accept segment .. and regardless .. they each get both copy blocks

the form only lets me send one email following submission, so I figured smartmodules would work .. seemingly not though now

Thanks

Robbie

@RWilliams699 thank you - could you please show the email editor and where exactly these are applied?

It sounds like you may have multiple sections in your email with smart rules applied. In that case, HubSpot will by default show them to every recipient and just switch around what is shown within that section depending on list membership.

If you’re seeing double, you need to just have one section with smart rules.

Many thanks for the swift, and accurate response .. this is exactly what is happening.

Seems like HubSpout just doesn’t work the way I would expect this to work, and how other CRM products do which use the same BEE editor work.

I will need to build a custom workflow off the underlying data point updates, and then trigger one of two static email variants then. Or trigger an email when someone joins the segment.

Thank for your help, this has save me hours of testing and frustration.

Robbie

@RWilliams699 typically it just requires thinking of multiple sections as one - it’s hard to describe without seeing which content you’d like to show. It does sound like you know how to proceed though.

If you have any follow-up questions, let me know!
