We’re getting a list of conference attendees we can contact once. Is there a way to import the list to send them one marketing email, but not have them merged into our database? Some of these names will already be in our database, but not the majority I would imagine. (I don’t have the list yet) Any ideas?

If you import the list, it will become a Static List with all of your conference attendees.
If you already have contacts in your database that are on this list, they will merge together because they share the same email address. Unless you have additional information in your file, these contacts will be unaffected for the most part.
For new contacts that you wish to remove after mailing, you can create a smart list or Contacts filter with the filters: List Membership: Contact is member of list [List Name] AND Contact Property: create date is [Date] AND Email: Contact was sent email [Email Name].
This should separate out the new contacts that you sent your email to. After that, you can just select them all and click delete.
