Publishing webpage before choosing theme

Hello! When you publish a webpage in Hubspot does it automatically go live on your website? I have connected Hubspot to our Wordpress site but haven’t chosen a theme and would like to add a single page without overhauling the website.

Related, if I do chose a theme will it change all existing pages to that theme?

Hi @bsmallpcdi

What exactly do you mean when you say “have connected Hubspot to our Wordpress site”?

If your website is hosted on WordPress you would host maybe your blog or landing pages in HubSpot, but you can’t host a website on the same URL both in WP and HubSpot.

@bsmallpcdi Your WordPress and HubSpot sites will have different URLs (unless you’re replacing your WordPress site with a HubSpot site). So when you publish something in HubSpot, it doesn’t live on the WordPress site, no. You can link from WP to HS, but it doesn’t “show up” on the WordPress site.

Here’s a resource from a partner that lays out what that migration should look like. Hopefully that helps frame the information for you.

Do you know if I’m able to simultaneously have our existing website remain untouched (hosted by a different host) while choosing a theme and creating all of the content for the new site?

Hi @bsmallpcdi
Yes, you can leave your website on WP untouched while building your site in HubSpot. This is possible because you won’t connect your domain or complete the domain transfer until you are ready to go live with the new website.

HubSpot provides a free domain that allows you to publish pages while you’re building the site, it will be something like this: 12345.hs-sites.com where the 12345 is your HubSpot portal ID.

I wrote an article in the HubSpot Community Blog about choosing a free theme that might be helpful since you’re coming from WP (full disclosure, I work for an agency that offers a paid theme in the marketplace).
Happy to help if you have other questions about migrating to CMS Hub :slightly_smiling_face:
