Lists Default Sort By Property

Am I missing something? It doesn’t appear possible to set what property I want to sort my list by.

Without being able to set a default means twice as many clicks putting lists into the order I require.

This seems like a basic thing to be missing, it’s available, right?

Hey @eliot_martin ,

thank you for reaching out to the community. I can feel your pain. Someone would think that is possible but unfortunately not.

There is a workaround with Views, though. Go to Contacts > Contacts (or Companies if you’re working with that object) and filter what you want to see. Maybe even filter according to the list you created earlier, as not all filters are possible here.

Next, you adjust the columns you would like to see and the sorting you would like to do. Save it, give it a name, and you’re in business.

You find out more and all the details here

Hope that helps.

I am working with a dynamic list for a Company object filtered by the status of an associated custom object. I can’t replicate this filter in the standard Companies view as associated object information is not exposed in the filter options of these types of views.

I have to create an active Company-based list that does expose associated object information and the workaround is not viable here.

The Create Date property is being used by default to sort these kinds of lists, even if the column isn’t exposed in the list, and it cannot be changed. I realise I can click the column headers to sort my list by alternative properties, but it’s just extra steps and makes for annoying UX.

Being able to dictate what property I want my data sorted by is fundamental functionality in any software that presents data in lists/tables. Yet another example of how HubSpot is an exercise in form over function.

Hey @eliot_martin,

Completely understand that you want as less steps possible to get to the companies you need to work on.

And yes, only company properties can filter within the Views. That is why I mentioned filtering the view with the list you’ve created before:

Maybe even filter according to the list you created earlier, as not all filters are possible here.

Here is how that would look:

Does this not work (in a technical sense) for you?

But I also agree that this should be a feature. I suggest letting HubSpot know that this is an essential feature for you and post it in the Idea Forum.

Cheers,

Chriso

No, your workaround doesn’t work.

The list I am using is based on a Company object but uses an associated custom object as the filter.

I have to create this list from Contacts > Lists > Create List because the associated custom object information is only exposed as a filter option here.

I can’t create this list from the normal Companies view because the associated custom object information is not exposed in the filters of that view.

Not sure how I feel about having to suggest to HubSpot’s product management that you should be able to set the default sort column in a data table.

Hey @eliot_martin,

I’m afraid I’m unable to follow you because as far as I understand your case, this exactly what I replicated in my example.

The list Your Amazing List filters on associated custom object data as well. The View only filters on that list membership.

But hey… if it doesn’t work for you, I’m afraid I can’t offer any other suggestions.

Maybe someone else has another idea. I wish you all the best.

Cheers,

Chriso

You created a filtered view of the Companies …

This view does not allow you to use associated custom object information in filters.

I created my list from …

This does let you use custom object information in filters, but your workaround doesn’t apply here.
