I’ve been waiting for a response on an email I sent to a contact through Hubspot for a couple of days. I went into my sent mail in Outlook to look at the sent mail and check what I had written. The second I opened that sent mail item I got a notification in Hubspot saying that person I’d sent it to (the contact named in Hubspot) had opened the email.
Seems like too much of a coincidence for the notification not to have been triggered by me opening the mail, not the contact.
Is that possible?
Hi @hedgert
When you send a tracked email via HubSpot, an invisible one-pixel image is placed within the email. When you open your sent email, the pixel is loaded and sends you a notification that it has been opened. This is why you are getting a notification. Being aware of this, especially when checking your sent email will hopefully put your mind at ease while you are waiting for a response. While it isn’t foolproof, it is better than having zero notifications.
We’ve had multiple clients who get frustrated with this, so we put together a one-page document with links to related HubSpot knowledge articles about this.
Also, check these resources from HubSpot:
How HubSpot email open tracking works.
Why am I getting multiple notifications for the same tracked email?
I hope this helps. If it does, please mark it as a solution.
Really clear prompt answer - thank you very much.
I have the same issue as @hedgert. This is an annoying way to do tracking, and it’s attributing interactions with the email by the recipient inaccurately. If I open the email to review, forward it or do anything else with it, HubSpot logs and “Open” by the recipient, which is not true. Additionally, the Outlook notifications bug also says that it was opened, which is annoying. Rather than providing a document that explains this, can you please work on fixing it?
