How can I automatically add manually imported contacts into my welcome series without duplicates?
For example; my company hosts webinars on webex. I take the registrant list and add it to my contacts database, if a person in that import has never received my welcome series I would like them to then receive it.
The problem is 1. I want to make sure that this person has never received an email from me before (don’t want to send a welcome series to someone who is already receiving my newsletter) and 2. I don’t want every person who is new to my contact database to get my welcome email -- only those whom I manually import / who wind up on my event registrants list.
HubSpot automatically deduplicates contacts by email address. If you import contacts that already exist under the same email address in the HubSpot CRM, HubSpot will update the contact with the new information but not create a duplicate.
For your use case specifically, I’d recommend create an active list of contacts who have already received your first welcome email from the series. In an active list, there is filter for marketing emails which lets you specify that HubSpot should return contacts who were sent a specific email.
You can then use this as an exclusion list for your welcome email series, making sure that there aren’t contacts who would receive this series twice.
Hi Karsten -- I have a related issue. When I click “Manage duplicate contacts” I see duplicates of duplicate. For example, there are multiple rows for the same person (the columns are identical). If Hubspot automatically deduplicates, why am I seeing several rows for the same person in the merge menu?
I recently cleaned up the list of duplicates and I’m back to 2,000+ duplicates again. Any suggestions?
The first step in troubleshooting would be to check where these contacts are coming from. Can you open a few of these duplicates and share what their original source is? Understand Original and Latest traffic source properties
@karstenkoehler just wondering if you know the answer to this? We’re hoping to export contact from Mailchimp to HS to use the marketing tools within HS. However, as far as I am aware, all our Mailchimp contacts were taken from HS in the first place.
