Hi!
How can I clean companies properties if needed. I mean - I don’t want to delete property but for examples I have 100 companies with property name: sold_products - where is multiple values
I need to clean current values and update those new ones.
What is best way to do this?
Hi @phtheref,
Just to confirm, you have one dropdown/checkboxes property and you want to update the values?
Generally, if you can, your best option is to simply rename the existing options, instead of deleting them and creating new ones. While the internal label will stay the same (e.g. when referencing the property through API), the displayed value in the CRM will reflect your renamed update.
If renaming is not an option, you would have to do the following:
- Create new option in your property settings
- On the company index page, filter all of the companies which have the old value
- Bulk edit them and set/append the new value: Bulk edit records
- Delete the old value in the property settings
If you share more details, I can elaborate.
Best regards
Hi!
Thx for fast answer… I’ll describe better our situation. First of all - we don’t have integration between Economic ERP and Hubspot which causes this situation.
I have customer_type property for companies which values includes different services which we are offering to the customer. Then I have identical values for contac_type_marketing property and there is an automation which keeps these values same at company and contacts under this company (because marketing is doing with contacts).
These customer_type values are old and not updated properly and I got export from economical ERP which includes customer name, domain and all products/services we are invoicing from customers.
What I need to do because customer_type values are not valid anymore:
- import new data from xls-file
- delete old data values from this customer_type property
- Put this new data values for each customer customer_type property

This isn’t needed, are you aware of that? You can easily build contact lists off company properties - and I’d strongly recommend doing so.
I’m not sure I 100% follow your explanation but generally, the steps remain the same:
- Store the old values in a safe place (export, other property, new value)
- Remove the old value after
Best regards!
Hmm… I should probably use chatgpt or something for better English
Point 1: This is clear and easy
Point2: How am I able to remove old values from 3647 companies?
So… if I am import “new data” to the customer_type value - how old values are deleted?
@phtheref to my knowledge, it’s currently not possible to remove values from multiple checkboxes via the user interface or via import, see here: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/Delete-or-clear-specific-values-from-multiple-checkbox-property/idi-p/34405
You would have to clear the entire property including all values (e.g. using the “Clear property value” in workflows or by bulk editing and removing all values). This in turn means that you need to store all values before making changes.
If you are doing this in bulk from the Contacts/company records list
the tool will ask you if you want to replace or append the value to the Multiple check property like this
If you want to this from an import
I will clear all the info the Property and then let the import set the new values
To clear the values in the property you select all the companies
select the edit button
search for the property you want to clear “customer_type property”
and choose Replace value and leave the option blank like this
This will reset in bulk the property values.
Then you import and set the new values
Hey @phtheref
so you have multiple options here
you can create a new property and migrate the information from the old property into the new one
(of course if you are using automations you will need to modifiy and add the new property)
Another options is within the same property you are already using, to create the new values needed, and import the file to match this new values. Then you can merge the old values with the new one to unify and update all the information. here is an example
.
Hope this helps.
