Help with Social Sharing Module - Email option

We are a start up company with the free version of HubSpot and are trying to get something launched but have an issue with the “share with a friend” functionality. I added the social sharing module (email option) and it works except that the url that comes through in the body of the email is not hyperlinked, so it is not user friendly. I tried html coding but that didn’t work and I haven’t been able to find an answer online or in the training.

Attached are screen shots of the module and the body of the email that is generated that has the url but it isn’t clickable. We don’t want people to have to cut and paste the url from an email in order to get to our site (instead of simply clicking on the link). Any suggestions or fixes are appreciated.

What template is that? I just tried loading up a basic hubspot template in a free account and don’t see the options you do, which leads me to believe that the module you are using is template specific and not a general one from hubspot.

Also from the looks of the module, it will not format HTML as this is not an HTML email being sent, but rather one from a client’s browser. If you send an email with that link in most cases it should turn into a hyperlink by the client, but that would need to be tested. Have you done that?

If you needed help getting completely setup with hubspot, I do some consulting and could help you get everything operational quickly.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for looking into this for me. I pulled it from a free template as shown below and it is the client’s browser that opens which is what we want. Forward to a friend may be a better description for this - sorry if it wasn’t clear. I have tested sending it to myself (as the client) in various ways and it never comes through as a hyperlink - not in outlook, gmail, etc.
No worries if this isn’t something you know the answer to.
Thanks,
Danielle

I was doing some further research and it is the mailto function that doesn’t allow the link. Some clients may convert it to HTML as Frank mentioned, but that appears to be a client-by-client basis so you won’t have a consistent experience.

Personally speaking, I would try it as you have it and run some analytics to see how many people are clicking it if it turns into an issue. Otherwise, while it could likely be solved for, it may be above your plan or require additional development that might not be worth the volume it gets.

Hi @DBoshart

Have you tried sending that second email with the link to anyone?

I know in GMail this will turn into a clickable hyperlink when the email gets to the recpient, even though it is not hyperlinked when I send it, see this example:

What I am sending…

What I am receiving

Cheers
