Help with 404 error and creating subdomain

Help!

I am currently using the free version of Hubspot - just starting my business. Will the Starter plan solve this issue???

I have my website connected to Hubspot (it is connected to GoDaddy), however I am getting a 404 error. Hubspot is absolutely no help since I am not paying them, which I get.

So, I am trying to set up a subdomain.

It is not allowing me to - it is only allowing me to set up a redirect.

My website is myautomationally.com.
Do any of you know a way around this or how to set up a subdomain on the free version?
And once it is set up, how do I make sure that my website is connected to it?

Sorry if I sound stupid, this is a little out of my wheelhouse.

Hi @kturchi,

It seems like you might be at about this step in HubSpot’s help article on connecting a domain.

For the subdomain, you’ll leave that blank if you want ‘www.’ HubSpot should prompt you to update your DNS records with GoDaddy. You will need to provide your login credentials for GoDaddy to use the automatic update.

You may need to scroll up and down the help article to troubleshoot. Please follow-up if this does not get you to a solution, and we can keep troubleshooting.

@RSchweighart - any chance you’d be willing to hop on a 10 minute call and take a second look for me? You may catch something my eye hasn’t seen.

Hi @RSchweighart ,

I’m encountering a similar domain issue and am having trouble backtracking through the steps to pinpoint where things might have gone wrong. I find the articles quite challenging to follow.

Could you please jump in and provide some additional direction? I’ve attached what I see from the domain manager page for your reference.

Hi @MYates0,

Have you verified your DNS records are updated wherever they are managed? Specifically, the CNAME record?

This section of the article explains the manual updating of your DNS records.

You’ll see in the screenshot above, I have the www as the subdomain even though it says optional when connecting in HubSpot. Then, I do not have a redirect from whimpact.co to www.whimpact.co, because HubSpot sets it up automatically.

If updating the CNAME does not fix it, you may try removing the redirect you set up. If that does not work, you may try connecting your primary domain with the ‘www’ as the subdomain similar to mine.

Please follow up if this still doesn’t resolve your 404 error.

All the Best,

Hi Ryan,

I tried each of the above options with no luck. Thank you for the detailed steps. Let me know what you think might be best as a next step.

Hi Micah, you’re welcome. Just to confirm, you see the record found when you select the ‘show DNS records’ from the dropdown in one of my earlier screenshots?

You can also verify ‘Require HTTPS’ is toggled on by selecting ‘Update domain security settings’ from that same dropdown.

The last thing I can think is to mimic my settings to have www as the subdomain and remove the redirect you have in the redirected domains section.

Hi Ryan,

Yes, I confirmed that the records could be found and that the Https was required. I also attempted to remove the redirect and mimic your method with no luck. I am not sure what else to try at this point.

Thanks @RSchweighart this appears to be where I left off! I am catching up but having a bit of trouble identifying the accurate value to point to (see screenshot below). Do you know where in the system I might be able to find that?

Hi @MYates0, you can find it by going to settings by clicking the gear icon in the top right. Then, use the screenshot I posted on Wednesday, 7/24.

I hope this is the fix!
