Help - same activity is being counted twice or sometime more!

Two issues:

1. Reports - The problem I’m experiencing is when I go to report on count of activities, a single activity (e.g. sending an email) can be repeated multiple times (so counts as 5 activities) thus inflating my numbers.

For example, I created a report that counted emails I sent out yesterday. The number looked staggeringly high and when I went into the details, where I actually sent out 5 emails, it was counting as 16.

2. Activities tab in contact

Similar to above, but often not in both places. E.g. I’ll see multiple counts for one action in reports but not in Activities tab in contact. I make 1 phone call but it appears 7 times in the activities tab. It’s THE SAME PHONE CALL. Sometimes it’s repeated twice, three times, but I’ve actually seen up to 7 although that is more rare.

Can you please share how you have exactly created this report? Did you use the custom report builder or the single object report builder? Is this an activity or contact-based report?
