GMail Thumbnail Preview Images

Recently in my personal email from brands I like. Sometimes I see images as a preview to the email before I click on it. It’s right under the Subject Line.

How is this being done and does Hubspot support it?

Here’s an example from my inbox and the brand is Thrive Causmetics.

Hi @JPretorious happy to help with your question about gmail’s image preview, they’ve been around since 2018ish - it’s part of Gmail Promotions and is called Annotations.

This requires you to add JSON to your email - I haven’t tested whether this is possible via custom coded template in HubSpot (I couldn’t find anything mentioned in the developer documentation).

This reddit thread mentions someone trying as recently as 10 months ago and not being able to successfully configure it.

The images would only be visible in Gmail, and the additional code could cause a spam flag for other ESPs (Email Service Providers) - any extra code in email is typically a warning sign for bad actors.

If a large number of your contacts are using Gmail or Google Workspace, it might be worth further investigation, I imagine the use cases are smaller for B2B (not sure if you are DTC or B2C).

Thank you!

you’re welcome @JPretorious, happy to help!

Wondering if there’s been any update to this? Has anyone tried this in the past year and had a successful outcome?

@Jnix284 @JPretorious

I have not seen any update on this.

@LEarle15 I also haven’t seen an update or done any further testing
