Feature Request - Ordering Articles

In Configure > Categories, the UI allows us to order articles within a subcategory, but this order is not reflected on the category page. Either make this ordering control drive the visible article order, or clarify in the UI what it affects. Right now it’s misleading and makes KB organization harder.

This is compounded when the Date field is represented as a catch all, and not presented as an ‘updated on.’

Would love to hear how others are addressing in terms of content management.

Hi there @TMaher1020

Thanks for highlighting this — UI order not matching the visible article order can definitely make KB management harder than it should be.

I’ll open this up to others who’ve run into the same pain point and may have found workarounds or best practices for organizing articles when the category ordering doesn’t carry through.

Hi @Jigar_Thakker @Shae_Taylor @GRajput i hope you’re having a great week! How are you all handling article ordering and keeping things clear for readers, especially with the date field behaving the way it does?

Hopefully we can gather some helpful approaches here.
Victor

Thank you! I would love to be able to hear how others are managing through their KB management.

Hi again @TMaher1020

Since we haven’t seen responses yet I wanted to add a bit more context.

If you go to the current (new and migrated) Knowledge Base, the order you’ll set in Service > Knowledge Base > Configure > Categories when dragging subcategories and articles — and then choosing Update template — is for control the order on the live category and subcategory pages, not only the internal UI.

You can find that here better explained: Manage knowledge base categories, subcategories, and tags and in the “[Now Live] Knowledge Base Re-order Categories and Articles” update: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Releases-and-Updates/Now-Live-Knowledge-Base-Re-order-Categories-and-Articles-Service/ba-p/418019

The issue you see happens usually when:

The KB is still using a legacy template, where layouts decide which and in what order articles are showm, so the order Configure > Categories is not shown on the front end, or either

There were some changes made in Configure > Categories but the Update template wasn’t published yet.

You can find more about legacy behaviors here: Create and customize a knowledge base (legacy)

If on the new KB, you’ve clicked Update template, and still doesn’t match the live order in Configure > Categories, you can send a few example URLs to Support to help you out with your portal

I hope this helps!

Best, Victor
